Internet Marketing Company-An Analysis

As the need for more effective spending of marketing dollars hits, more and more businesses are turning to an internet marketing company to help boost their sales and brand exposure.  The lure of the internet is strong for marketing managers: a medium where you can specifically target exactly the people looking for your product or service AND get triple the marketing exposure for the same budget you may spend on print, radio or TV ads.  Another upside?  Unlike traditional marketing media, internet marketing can be specifically tracked so you know EXACTLY what your investment is getting you…if you do things right.Visit internet marketing.

Enter the internet marketing company.  Since marketing over the internet is a fairly new medium (less than 20 years old, while TV, radio and print is well over 50 years old) many companies just don’t get it.  They’ve heard of the wonders of internet and search marketing, but they have no idea how to use it to their advantage.  As far as many are concerned, their website is the online equivalent of a business card.  But any true web marketing firm can tell you – if your website isn’t generating you business, sales, leads or prospects, you’re wasting time and money.

Just about any business out there can take advantage of some form of internet marketing, and if you have no idea how it applies to your business, then find a company that does.  Of course, due to the success of internet marketing, more and more so called “internet marketing experts” are cropping up all over the place.  The problem is how to weed out the know-nothing hacks from the professionals who can actually make a difference to your business.

As you begin shopping around for an internet marketing company, location should be one of your first considerations.  Do you want a firm in the same area for on site visits and face to face meetings, or are you okay with meeting via conference calls and web conferences?  The beauty of the internet is that no matter how geographically distant you are from someone, you can still work with them as though they’re in the same room.  There are pros and cons to both situations, so it’s really preference that should determine your decision.

Once you’ve narrowed the list down to a few companies, search online for reviews, testimonials and portfolios for each.  However, don’t choose your company based on who worked with the biggest clients, or had the most project – it’s important to set up meetings with each, explain your company and the goals you’re looking to achieve, and let them pitch you on their ideas.  Just because a firm has done internet marketing for a Fortune 500 company doesn’t mean the campaign was a huge success.

Another consideration is cost – just because an internet marketing company is more expensive doesn’t necessarily make it better.  Truly listen to the ideas they are pitching and try and determine who you think will work the hardest for your money.  On the flip side, sometimes companies are cheap because they’re bad.  That’s why seeing a portfolio of work is so important.

Last, but not least, get them to educate you somewhat during your meeting.  Some companies can talk a big, technical game, and drop a few names, but what really matters is that they can communicate effectively just what the heck they’re talking about.  Any company worth their salt can cut through the tech speak and lay it out for you in terms you can understand.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of all the things you should look out for in an internet marketing company.  But it’s a good starting point to figure out the things you should be asking as you shop around.  Remember, sometimes the so called “smaller” companies are the ones willing to work the hardest to prove themselves to you, while the “bigger” firms are to busy to pay enough attention to your internet marketing campaign.
