The Grenadines

Situated at the southern end of the windward island chain, the Grenadines are 32 islands and cays stretching over 35 miles from St. Vincent in the north to Grenada in the south. The Grenadines are still fairly unknown to many tourists, except for the yachting crowd who have been sailing these idyllic waters for many years. The better known islands are Bequia, Mustique, Union, and Canouan. Although some of the Grenadines, like Mustique and Palm Island, cater to the rich and famous, others, like Bequia and Union Island, attract an international crew of sea salts and beachcombers.

This host of small islands grouped together on a brilliant turquoise sea. Good beaches with fine snorkeling and diving and a laid back atmosphere are what the Grenadines are all about. Our base in Union Island is in the center of the group of reef fringed sandy islands that are visible in almost every direction. The beaches are spectacular and reefs flourish everywhere so extreme care must be taken when snorkeling and diving not to damage the reef in any way.  The islands are dotted with friendly bars.  There are many small restaurants and bands put on shows weekly in the local hotels.

Reefs flourish everywhere.  There are many reefs that are not visible; these reefs can be 30 to 40 feet deep.  Most reefs are surrounded by white sand, which catches the sunlight and makes the underwater colors bright and clear with panoramas that barely fade in the distance.  Most of our dives are relaxing and easy, be we also offer some adventurous dives.  One of our daring dives is a volcanic valley, 90 feet deep, where the seabed continually bubbles and releases gases from deep in the earth.

Mayreau

The island of Mayreau is where nature works to provide absolute tranquility.  It is the smallest of the Grenadines with a population of around 200.  The island’s main source of income is from fishing and tourism.  It has no hospital or police station and has only had electricity for six years!

Stopping on the soft, white sandy beach at Salt Whistle Bay where there is a bar and boutique close by.  Walk to the end of the beach and take a 2 minute stroll to the other side of the island or just soak up the sun instead.  Before heading back to the catamaran, cool off with a swim in the crystal clear water.

Tobago Cays

The Tobago Cays are considered to be the jewel in St. Vincent’s crown.  These spectacular coral reefs are some of the best in the world and have been declared a Marine Park by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The five islands of the Tobago Cays are Petit Bateau, Petit Rameau, Jamesby, Baradal, and Petit Tabac, where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed.

Stopping at Baradal a member or the crew will take you out in a dingy and show you the best snorkeling sites.  Put on a snorkel, mask and fins and experience the amazing underwater world just below the surface of the water.  So many different types of coral and an abundance of multi colored fish swim around you oblivious to your presence in their environment.

Palm Island

Palm Island is the exclusive holiday resort named after its abundance of palm trees planted by the previous owner.  A coral island with pink and white sand, the catamaran will pull up on to the beach.  The 135 acre island has five beaches and is the perfect location to spend the end of the day.  There is a boutique, restaurant and a bar for visiting guests.

Petit St. Vincent

Petit St. Vincent is the southernmost island of the Grenadines. Lying 40 miles south of St. Vincent the white sand beaches are backed by landscape of rolling green hills on this 113 acre island is surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters and reefs.  There is a restaurant, bar and boutique for visiting guests to use.

Morpion

Morpion Island is approximately 50ft long and is a sand island located off the Petit St Vincent.  The island is encircled by a coral reef about 30ft from the beach and is an ideal location for snorkeling.  The coral reef is just a foot or so below the surface of the water.  There is only one building on the island which is a thatched umbrella.

Canouan

Canouan is the native Carib word for “Island of Turtles”.  It is one of the larger islands in the Grenadines and is a unique crescent shape. The small bays and coves that surround it have long, white sweeping beaches.  A coral reef partially surrounds the island’s Atlantic shore and offers protection for the beaches.  The dramatic contrast between the sand, sea and lush flora and fauna is breathtaking.
